Bucs Put Evans On IR; Irving, Godwin Still Out

Bucs Put Evans on IR; Irving, Godwin Still Out

Okay, Bucs fans, let’s brace ourselves. It’s been a rough week injury-wise, and unfortunately, things aren’t getting much sunnier as we head into the game against the Saints. The big news is that our star wide receiver, Mike Evans, is heading to injured reserve (IR) after that tough loss to the Lions on Monday night.

Evans Out with Broken Collarbone

Yep, you heard right. Evans took a hit that resulted in a broken collarbone. To add insult to injury, he also suffered a concussion during the game. I mean, seriously, can we catch a break?

Now, the good news (sort of) is that he’s expected to undergo surgery this week to get that collarbone fixed up, according to sources close to the team. The hope is that he’ll be back on the field before the regular season wraps up.

Coach Todd Bowles addressed the situation, saying that Evans is "doing well" considering the circumstances. But he also tempered expectations, stating, "It’s going to be touch and go."

Basically, it sounds like we won’t know for sure when Evans can return until we get closer to the end of the year. Bowles hinted that a return before the playoffs is the goal, but it might even extend into the playoffs, depending on how well his collarbone heals. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery, Mike! We need you out there.

Reddick’s Status Uncertain

Unfortunately, Evans isn’t the only Buc who got banged up against the Lions. Outside linebacker Haason Reddick also sustained an injury during the game. The team is still waiting on the results of an MRI to determine the extent of the damage.

But Bowles has already confirmed that Reddick will be sidelined for some time. This is a tough blow for the defense, as Reddick has been a key contributor to our pass rush. Let’s hope it’s not too serious and he can get back on the field soon.

Irving and Godwin Remain Sidelined

To make matters even more challenging, we’ll also be without running back Bucky Irving and wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. for the game against the Saints. Irving is dealing with a foot sprain and a shoulder subluxation (a partial dislocation). Godwin is still nursing that fibula injury.

Now, the Godwin situation is a bit concerning, considering it’s on the same leg as his surgically repaired left ankle. When asked if this puts his season in jeopardy, Bowles responded that it’s a "week-to-week thing right now" and that he doesn’t believe it will end his season. Phew! Let’s hope he’s right. Godwin is a vital part of our offense, and we need him healthy for the long haul.

McMillan Still Recovering

Remember Jalen McMillan? The wide receiver who suffered a sprained neck during the second preseason game? He’s still on injured reserve, and there’s no firm date for his return.

Bowles did say that McMillan is "getting better," but he didn’t provide a specific timeline. The initial target was sometime after the Week 9 bye, but there’s still no concrete date. Apparently, they’ll re-evaluate once he gets out of the neck brace. We’re all rooting for you, Jalen!

Roster Moves

With Evans heading to IR, the Bucs needed to fill his roster spot. They’ve signed offensive lineman Michael Jordan off the practice squad to take his place. This move provides some much-needed depth on the offensive line, which is always a good thing.

The team also added some receiver depth to the practice squad by signing Brandon Johnson, a former Bronco and Steeler. He’ll fill Jordan’s spot on the practice squad and provide some additional options at wide receiver.

Looking Ahead to the Saints Game

So, yeah, it’s been a tough week for the Bucs on the injury front. We’re heading into a crucial divisional game against the Saints with a depleted roster. But hey, that’s football, right? Injuries are part of the game, and it’s up to the coaches and players to adjust and overcome adversity.

The Saints are always a tough opponent, especially in their own house. They’ve got a solid defense and an offense that can put up points. It’s going to be a battle, no doubt about it.

With Evans out, other receivers like Godwin (if he plays), Russell Gage, and maybe even some of the younger guys will need to step up and make plays. The running game will also be crucial to take some pressure off the passing attack.

Defensively, the Bucs will need to find a way to generate pressure on the Saints’ quarterback without Reddick. Guys like Shaq Barrett and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka will need to have big games.

Time to Rally, Bucs Fans!

Despite the injuries, I’m still confident that the Bucs can go into New Orleans and get a win. They’ve got a resilient bunch of players and a coaching staff that knows how to game plan.

It’s going to take a complete team effort, but I believe they can pull it off. So, let’s all rally behind the Bucs and show them our support! Let’s get loud, wear our pewter and red, and cheer them on to victory!

My Take

Look, injuries are the worst part of football. You never want to see players get hurt, especially key guys like Evans. It’s a bummer for him, for the team, and for us fans.

But the NFL is a "next man up" league. It’s an opportunity for other players to step into the spotlight and prove what they can do. Maybe this is the chance for a young receiver to make a name for himself, or for a veteran to show he’s still got it.
