Alright, NFL fans, we’re officially past the halfway point of the season (well, almost!). That means we’ve had a solid look at this year’s rookie class, especially those shiny new first-round draft picks. Some of these guys are already looking like seasoned vets, while others… well, let’s just say they might need a little more time in the oven.

So, let’s dive into some grades. We’re not handing out participation trophies here. These grades are based on performance, impact, and overall potential through the first seven weeks (ish) of the season. Buckle up, because some of these might surprise you!

The Headliners: Instant Impact Guys

  • C.J. Stroud, QB, Houston Texans: A+

Okay, let’s just get this out of the way. C.J. Stroud is balling. Seriously. Coming into the season, a lot of folks (myself included, I’ll admit it) were a little skeptical about whether he could turn around the Texans’ fortunes this quickly. But Stroud has been absolutely electric. He’s shown poise, accuracy, and a surprising command of the offense. He’s not just managing games; he’s winning them. The Texans look like a completely different team with him under center, and he’s easily the frontrunner for Offensive Rookie of the Year. Forget rebuilding; the Texans might be ahead of schedule thanks to this kid. He’s not just good; he’s got that “it” factor. The future is bright in Houston, folks.

  • Bijan Robinson, RB, Atlanta Falcons: A

The Falcons raised some eyebrows when they took a running back so high in the draft, but Bijan Robinson is quickly proving why he was worth the investment. He’s got the vision, the agility, and the power to be a true game-changer. Arthur Smith clearly wants to establish the run, and Robinson is the perfect weapon for that strategy. He’s not just a bruiser; he’s got wiggle and can catch passes out of the backfield. While the Falcons’ overall offensive scheme can be a bit…questionable at times, Robinson is consistently producing and showing flashes of brilliance. He’s a threat to score every time he touches the ball, and he’s going to be a problem for defenses for years to come.

  • Jalen Carter, DT, Philadelphia Eagles: A

The Eagles are a defensive powerhouse, and Jalen Carter is fitting in perfectly. Concerns about his off-field issues seem to be a thing of the past. On the field, he’s been an absolute disruptive force. He’s got the strength to bull rush offensive linemen and the quickness to get into the backfield. Playing alongside veterans like Fletcher Cox has clearly helped his development, and he’s already making a significant impact on the Eagles’ dominant defense. Carter is living up to the hype and proving why he was considered one of the top talents in the draft. This is a scary addition to an already intimidating defensive line.

Solid Starters: Doing Their Job

  • Tyree Wilson, DE, Las Vegas Raiders: B-

Wilson has had a slower start than some expected, but he’s showing steady improvement. He’s getting consistent playing time and is starting to flash the potential that made him a top pick. He’s still raw and needs to refine his technique, but he’s got the size and athleticism to be a dominant pass rusher. The Raiders need him to develop quickly, and while he hasn’t been a game-changer yet, he’s trending in the right direction. He’s learning on the job, and the Raiders are hoping he can become a consistent force as the season progresses.

  • Paris Johnson Jr., OT, Arizona Cardinals: B

Johnson has been a steady presence on the Cardinals’ offensive line. He’s not blowing anyone away, but he’s holding his own against some tough competition. The Cardinals’ offense has been a work in progress, but Johnson has provided some stability at a crucial position. He’s got the size and strength to be a long-term starter, and he’s showing the potential to develop into a Pro Bowl-caliber player. He is a foundational piece for the Cardinals.
